Regrding Rocket Reducers gg atthe Rickshaw this Friday. China Creeps backed out today due to multiple what I am led to assume must be skateboard injuries. The Rocket Reducers are still playing, still a fine band, still on tour all the way from Ontario and still need your support so come on out and do it. Urban Guerilla are a rising Jihad of rocknroll sewn together from bits of the Spitfires and Red Hot Lovers and worth the price of admission in and of their own rocking selves. The Creeps left a gaping hole in the bill so if any punky band wants to play please get back to me asap. dave@theskinnymag.info

Okay, so we’ve finally got a predictable and easy to remember distribution schedule. The Skinny will come out the first and third Tuesday of every month. Sometimes that means it will be three weeks between issues. We don’t care. We’re still going to call it bi-weekly. There is nothing you can do about it. We crazy degenerates over here at the Skinny are honoured that Gord Berry and Three Chord Rebel Productions have joined forces with us. They will be taking care of the majority of our distribution. Stiff Josh will continue to distribute downtown, so if you want a copy on Tuesday, and not say, the Wednesday of the following week, you may want to consider a sidetrip to the Drive, Main Street or Kitsilano were Gord will be layin em down in a timely fashion. (Settle down, Josh). The first annual Skinny Magazine Christmas Party is scheduled for Sat. Dec. 6 at the Anza Club. You really should come. Why? Because its chock full of great bands. The Green Hour, The Smokes, The Hawaiian Bibles, The TeeVees and Los Malos. And as if that wasn’t enough, Billy Hopeless will be channelling evil santa and raffling of a bunch of prizes donated by our advertisers. Every admission will get one raffle ticket gratis. The first 20 people will get five raffle tickets. It will be possible to buy more if you want. There will also be random giveaways of Skinny merch and you want Skinny merch, man, cause it is hip as hell muthafuckah!

Skinny Issue 3 is out now. Pick it up and read. Don't worry about ink on your fingers, it's better than a brain tumour.

Apr 30th, 2008

Hello everybody and welcome to the Skinny online. We are a bi-weekly Vancouver music rag you may, if you are super observant, have seen lying around various establishments in town in its physical incarnation as an actual honest-to-google flesh and blood newspaper. Here we do much of the same thing, with a bit more interactivity and such, and less ink on the fingers. We started the whole deal, cyber and fiber, for the purpose of extolling Vancouver’s terrific music scene because we think it needs it. We are a pleasant and lackadaisical lot, us Vancouverites, not given to trumpeting our virtues or forcing ourselves on anyone. We are the anti-Americans you might say. But in terms of our music scene we take this too far. While Toronto is the centre of music in Canada because…er… because it said so dammit, and Montreal lags not far behind with its burning arcades and various wolves and such, Vancouver always modestly takes its place at the back of the line. This is well nigh criminal when you consider the overflowing abundance, nay, EMBARRASMENT of musical wealth here. Fact of the matter: there are so many freakin goddamn good bands in this town its just stupid. We’d like other people to know about them. Crucial stuff like what fast food joint they prefer on the road. Or who slugged who that time in Albuquerque. You need to know and they need to tell. It is self-evident. It was once said that writing about music is like dancing about architecture, and indeed the whole exercise is a bit absurd. But you like reading about music because it gives you something to do with your eyes and hands while you listen to it. And in this town nobody else is doing it. At least not about music you care about. If Muddle of Pud or Theory of a Nickelfault or whatever they call it is your cup of tea then by all means read the folderol in the Georgia Straight. But if you like GOOD music, CREATIVE music, REAL music, you need to check us out. At this writing we are only a couple issues old. So its hard to say where it might go from here. It might get better, it might get worse. It might get bigger, it might not. All I can say is we’re enjoying ourselves and feeling pretty damn indispensable right about now, let me tell you. So bookmark this site and pick us up when you see us, cause if you’re into Van-made music, you have no choice.
